Jim was content.

Most of her crew had gotten the shore leave they so desperately needed, finally; she herself wasn't planning on participating, seeing as how she had some work to catch up on, but she was assured that the planet was entirely beautiful and peaceful - all in all perfect for the crewmember in need of some rest.

She was halfway through a stack of PADDs when Uhura informed her Dr. McCoy was calling from the planet; she pushed them aside for the moment and prepared to fend off another attempt to get her to beam down.

"Yes, Bones?"

And hi normal Bones groaning like he's been shot when he sees his half naked self.

She crossed her arms.

"Well, it's you thinking it! Stop, or I'll think of something you won't like," he looked at her sternly as he spoke.

"The Kobayashi maru?" He challenged, setting his mind firmly on putting her right in that test again. Without the ability to cheat!

And there it was, everyone on deck waiting for her command - but she crossed her arms and shook her head.

"I don't have to play this game, Bones."

"You do if almost naked Bones over there-" oh look, he's sat at tactical. "Doesn't vanish!"

Well, luckily for both of them, the planet was listening in on Bones just then, and naked Bones did vanish.

But the Bridge was changing - subtly, and the people on it were - she knew what the Kelvin looked like, she knew the crew, looked up the files and pictures and every time she went through this damn test, she thought was this what it was like? Someone walked up for her orders (Lieutenant Thompson, just transferred) and she punched him in the jaw.

Abruptly, the bridge disappeared.

He watched her curiously, brow knitted together in thought and concern.

"...okay, that move would probably mean a 3rd fail at the test."

"Shut up," she said, and stalked off in the direction of the rendezvous point.

"What happened there?" he asked, following her with a scowl at being told to shut up.

"It doesn't matter. I thought I told you to shut up."

Man did not follow orders.

"Is that an order? Because if it is, you need to phrase it right," because right now, she just sounded like normal pissed off Jim, not a commanding officer giving orders.

"Fine." Sudden stop, and she turned to face him. "Kindly keep your mouth shut, Doctor McCoy."

Admittedly, she still sounded like normal pissed off Jim, just also giving orders.

"Fine, Sir," he replied with a quirk of his brow. He wasn't entirely sure what had happened back there. All he knew? She was pissed off, most likely at him.

She chose, for the moment, not to point out that verbally acknowledging the order was disobeying the order.

Instead, she stalked around the clearing where the rest of the party was supposed to meet up with them, and hadn't yet. "Where the hell are they?"

See, he would have said something, but instead he pointed up to his closed lips and shook his head, gesturing with his hand that he couldn't say a thing.

She glared at him.

He just looked back at her with an expression that was a mixture of defiant, and passive. He was only following orders!

"Fine. Talk."

"Thank you, captain. I don't know. Perhaps try contacting them? Or the Enterprise. I'm sure Spock'll scan them out if they're still down here." There, that was a sensible and practical offering from him.

And damn him for it. She contacted Spcok and got the change in coordinates and - she just knew it - an eyebrow from space for her snappy tone.

"Are you going to tell me what made you so snappy? I didn't think that test pissed you off so much," not that he expected an answer other than 'shut up'.
