stars shining bright above you

It starts slow, and gentle. When you’re there, you feel off-balance and unsteady; you can feel the planet tilting beneath you at impossible speeds, and the vastness of it is dizzying. Intellectually, you know you’re in a dream, following dream-rules that don’t conform to reality. Except. When you’re there, they press needles to your skin and tell you it’s for your own good, and each time they do, your world cracks a little creating labyrinthine fault lines deep enough to fall into, if you let yourself.
(At the heart of it, you have stardust in your lungs, and always will.)
