Jim's learned several nifty things about her PINpoint while she was confined to quarters. One is that yes, she could program in coordinates for transportation, and managed to test it on a few inanimate objects with 100% success rate. She wasn't sure yet if she wanted to use it on herself - she didn't have anything against transporters, unlike Bones, but she wasn't sure she trusted it solely to a device she could hold in the palm of her hand.

Another was that, in addition to sending text communication to other PINpoints, you could send cartoon faces for emphasis of emotions. After an hour of lying on her bed staring at the ceiling ensuing a dream - she refused to consider them nightmares, just slightly troubling constructs of her mind that sometimes wouldn't go away afterwards - after that, she found herself reaching for her PINpoint and selecting an appropriately hopeful, sad, and above all pathetic face to send to Bones with her text.

Pax?

Luckily, it was morning already for Bones' shift, or that might have hurt her case more than helped it.

"I don't even have the energy in me to list all the reasons that soup is not nearly enough for me."

"Fine."

Soup and a sandwich, then. "You still haven't told me why you want to eat in your quarters, Bones."

She'd had enough of quarters, after all. If she had to pick one, at least there was Bones' for variety, but she preferred the Mess right now.

"Because if we end up having as polite a conversation as earlier, maybe it should be somewhere where your crew doesn't see it," he replied simply.

"You have no faith in me, do you."

Of course, since the gods of irony chose exactly that moment for Dr. Helen Noel to enter in search of breakfast, Jim decided it would be beneficial to change tack.

"Let's go, then."

"I do," he replied with a slight sigh. He noticed the entrance of Helen into the room, and silently filed that information - and Jim's seemingly lack of reaction - away to mention later.

She'd be pleased that she showed no sign of reaction. Somewhere, though, the readouts for the monitor she's wearing were going crazy: elevated heartrate, et hoc genus omne.

Which was possibly why she was plotting a course to the doors that did not cross the doctor's path. Just because she knew they were faked didn't mean the feelings went away.

Oh, he'd catch those readings at some point. Still, he walked out with her, keeping a very close eye on her.

Not that there was anything to see. Just one Captain, walking briskly through the corridors in the direction of her Chief Medical Officer's quarters.

On arrival, she commandeered the nearest table-like surface to set down her load of dinner. "Get it while it's hot."

"Sure thing," he replied, moving to take hold of the food to begin his assault. Oh, how he was hungry.

MMMM, she sure was enjoying that steak, Bones. Made his soup and sandwich look a little pitiful, didn't it?

Pffft. He'd get his revenge.

She'd be interested to see what that was.

After she finished her steak.

"So... are we any closer to you talking through what's going on in your head?" Spoken between mouthfuls of his soup.

"I don't know, Bones," she said, carefully blank. "Are we?"

"I'd like to hope so."

"All right."

If he wanted to think so, then that was fine by her.

So she very neatly cut another piece of her steak.

"I've already told you there's nothing wrong."

Admittedly, the mantra was starting to take on a new dimension of flatness, because it was starting to be just that: a set of words that, frankly, neither of them really believed.

"And I've already told you I don't believe you," he replied carefully.

She let her attention fall back on her meal. "That's your choice, Bones."

She sighed, letting her guard down just a little. "I know."

"I know you also think I'm being a pain in the ass, but I just want you to be alright." He was so worried for her, it wasn't even funny.
