She'd been in her quarters for the past hour, going over past events in her mind, trying to make them make sense. There'd been a battle going on ever since she first laid eyes on the Karidians, a tug of war between her gut instincts and her sense of responsibility, along with... other emotions she didn't care to acknowledge.

Just as she came close to heading to Sickbay to check on Lt. Riley's condition herself, Bones' report came through and she settled in to interpret some medical language. The cold coffee she'd intended to bolster her language skills with did little to help aside from shock her into realizing just how long she'd been sitting around, brooding.

Under the circumstances, Spock's sudden interruption was almost a welcome distraction. "What is it?"
